Pocket Yoga App Reviews

Easier please!

I decided to get this because I thought yoga would be a good way to start getting back into shape after having my first child 4 months ago, and something that wouldnt put too much stress on my joints. Unfortunately, the first time I tried it, I was only able to do 20 min, and my wrists were really sore. I would love it if the positions could be slowed down, and if there was a 15 minute option so I dont feel like such a failure when I cant finish it. A 15 minute option would be also be great for when my baby is taking one of her little cat naps, and I dont have time for the whole 30 minute session. Also, maybe some poses that are easier than the beginner level? I feel like such a weakling for saying all this, but I also know that if I start out trying to do something that is too hard to do every day, I wont stick with it. Please make it easier for someone that is really out of shape to work upt to it!!!

absolutely fantastic

Im a college student and while I have a beautiful gym to go to on campus I can never drag my butt to it. I dont have to go anywhere, drive anywhere (especially with these gas prices), feel frustrated because I wont have time, all I simply have to do is get my matt on the floor and start. Its such a flexible way to get a really good work-out in whether you have 30 minutes or an hour. I sure do feel the burn and sweat without the cheesiness of a typical yoga video. Completely worth it, I reccomend it to anyone who asks how Ive lost weight. You wont regret it.

Needs work, not worth the money.

I downloaded this app after I saw good reviews about it, but when I opened it for the first time, I was shocked by the lack of features, and the roughness of the application. First, You will have no control over the sequence of your practice. The description of the app says there are 27 different modes, but this is simply not true, there are three different sequences and changing the expertise level or time duration does not really change the workout. Second, the app is not animated but there are only a sequence of pictures shown after eachother. The transition between poses is a very important part of Yoga, that this application just does not capture. Finally, the voice over the practice is a machine generated sequence from previously recorded bits and words, and sounds so unnatural and unsettling. This is a total waste of money.

At times.... a ittle too fast for newbies

Watching this on my iMac.... attempting to watch and follow is just a bit fast... would be nice to have control over pacing. Still perfecting poses and would like just a wee bit more time. Tried my remote and it lauched iTunes... Albeit this is a bit frustrating, I am working through it and would buy it knowing this anyway.

back in shape after second baby

As a mom of two and a beginner to yoga, I found this app very useful. You can pick the length of your workout (30, 45, or 60 minutes) as well as the difficulty (beginner, intermediate, or advanced). With those options you are sure to get a good workout. The only downside is that the workouts lack variety, however for the cost of the app I really cant complain. All in all, its a good app.

I love Pocket Yoga!

Ive never tried yoga before. Ive done a lot of crossfit-style exercises and only downloaded this app hoping to get some flexibility back. I love this app and I love yoga now. The app is great for beginners like me and the practice is really easy to follow.

Love the Mac Version

Bought the iOS version months ago. Was psyched to hear they released it for the Mac. It looks incredible on my 27" iMac and I absolutely love using this App at every opportunity. Keep up the great work!

Why so fast?

Running the beginner mode and it starts out ok but after going through several poses at a modest pace things get whacky. Pose to pose to pose to pose to pose to pose...really that fast! Whats up with that? Dont see any preferences or settings for speed - dont know how or why you would ever want to do yoga this fast.

Great… then CRAZY

I started on a beginner 60-minute session. It started out great, but then got crazy! The poses moved WAY too fast to keep up. No way is yoga supposed to be that fast… thats not relaxing! Until they fix this problem, I can only give it two stars. Without this issue, it would easily deserve five stars. Please fix!!!

Perfect!

This yoga application is totally worth the measly $5. It has a beautiful interface, the music is not obnoxious. It is great for beginners with guides for when to breath and when to transition between poses. Its great for beginners and those more experienced. This is absolutely the best yoga application Ive tried it has the best transitions between poses it flows beautifully!

BEST APP EVER

I have this app for my i-touch and it is the best app I ever bought. Its really like being in a class in the privacy of your own home and I actually do Yoga with this. I have it on my i touch and it means I can do it on the go. You can choose from the full routine, you choose beginner, medium, expert and then you choose the time. But if you want a qucik fix, you can just choose the type of routine and how many sets. In addition it has a library of poses that explains which organs and parts of the body the pose helps. I saw this app for the mac and I just jumped for it - no thinking. Yay!!!!

fast but worth it

if youve done yoga before and youre mostly familiar with it, the practice may seem fast at first but you get the hang of it quickly. once you get used to it this application is wonderful and great for keep up with yoga practices. i would have given it 5 stars but i dont recommend it for people who have never done yoga before. if its your first time, go out and find a yoga class where there is a teacher that can help you, because you will be confused and always looking at the screen and not getting the most benefits out of doing the yoga practice. otherwise the app is great!!

Very disappointing

This was my first yoga app. I bought it based on the reviews and therein lies the problem. There must be a secret review language I dont understand. This program is boring, excruciatingly repetitive and the speaking voice saying the word exhale made me wish I could physically rip the app out and fling it into another dimension. Is this really the best they can do? I would be willing to pay more to supplement my twice weekly yoga classes but feel a little intimidated and underwhelmed now.

Too Fast!!!

I tried the beginner 30 minute with some yoga experience. Somewhere around the 8 minute mark the motions were sped up at twice the speed. Is this yoga? Or am I training for a race? I like the calm of the beginning. Please fix! Please stay true to yoga as a stretch-zen method of exercise, not an aerobic one.

so sad americans take yoga and try to turn into a calorie burn!

I read a couple of posts about this being really fast! Dont totally blame the producer of this product! Instead it is the American way that we have taken something that is supposed to be used to create a mind body connection and simply "applied the fast food" procedures to it! Shame on this product maker and shame on the industry of yoga in america. I would agree with many of you in that if you have not taken several classes of yoga, do not use this as your first! I am a yoga regular and can easily see just in the beginner section how a person can injure yourself! I expect a little more from a $3 app!

Best on-the-go yoga app, but may be confusing for the inexperienced

For the new yoga student, the app may seem quick -- however, Gaiam teaches a Vinyasa based style yoga which is focused on flowing (moving smoothly from pose to pose in accordance with breath rhythm). Flowing does grow much quicker towards the end of the practice, but that is in order to build and improve. But after all, yoga is not relaxing stretching -- yoga is always work. For the student who (mistakenly) thinks that yoga is just about going slowly from pose to pose, this type of yoga will not befit them well. However, the app is indeed limited in its lack of transition explanation, and the fact that the student watching the animated figure does not see how to appropriately get into the next pose -- this is unfortunate, as the sequence of transition is just as important as getting into a pose. Gaiam might also do well to explain more in detail what kind of yoga they teach, and what a vinyasa is. These are the main limitations for the app, but overall, the app is a fun and excellent tool for intermediate and even advanced students to keep up their practice at home and on the go.

Not as useful as the iPad app

This app is fairly priced for what it offers, good visuals of different types of yoga poses. The classes move a bit fast if you have no experience with yoga. I had some, so it was reasonably paced. However, the iPad version of the app also includes a wonderful reference with all the poses. This app is twice as expensive, and is missing one of the best features of the iPad version. It is far easier to keep up if you can learn the poses and follow along without having to look at the screen, potentially causing you to be in improper positions while doing so.

A little disappointed but still a good yoga app

I also have the iOS versions of Pocket Yoga. I expected that I would be able to create a custom yoga practice on my Mac then transfer it to my iPhone or iPad (or vice versa). The developers must have this capability in the works for a future release. I look forward to it. In the meantime, this is a good app to help with my home practice.

Well Worth the Money

This is a low price to pay for what you get. It lacks some functionality that the iPhone app includes, such as history of your yoga practice with the app and access poses, so you can practice them before doing a full routine. Otherwise, this is one of the best—and least expensive—ways to practice yoga at home or office.

Skeptic

For $5 i thought it was worth a try. This is definitely not for newbies at Yoga but a beginner is totally ok with the routines. I just finished my first routine. If not for my very small Yoga background, like 5 classes, this would have been a bit touch and go. But overall, 5 stars for the ease and simplicity. Nothing complicated here, just simple fun healthy Yoga at home or on the road in your mac.
